Abstract:
Although there are many fathers incarcerated in the state of
Louisiana, I am quite sure only a handful fell into my unique
category. On December 13, 2011, I was arrested for possession of
marijuana. It was my third offense. Unable to make the
extremely high bond, I was remanded to the Notorious House of
Detention. For those who have never had the pleasure of
spending the night in what we call “The House of Death,” just
know that it is everything you heard about and ten times worse.
At that time, I was expecting the birth of my first child. I was
certain that the courts would give me a break so that I could be
there to see her birth. Boy, was I mistaken!
